New(ish) to Mastodon. Lurking for a while. #introduction
Anybody here interested in discussing #sounddesign for live #theater?
@BruceW Absolutely. Sound design's my jam. Don't know much about theatre though.
@JustinMac84 It took me years to rediscover my love for theater. For me it’s the collaboration with other designers (lighting, costumes, props, sets, etc) and the actors. Creating a sonic world for the actors to play in is very rewarding. The work ranges from simple sound effects (phones, door bells, thunder…) to elaborate, cinematic environments with original music. I’m trying to revive an old blog by republishing original posts and posting new thoughts - https://bawebster.com
@BruceW TThanks for the link. I do more offline work, managing all those cues against live delivered lines sounds tricky lol. Cool though.
@JustinMac84 the live phase is the definitely the performance aspect of the work. I definitely approach this part musically. But lots more alone time, selecting/tweaking existing sound files and creating new sounds (concrete and abstract). Great tools like QLab https://qlab.app to assemble and adjust a list of cues that are started by hitting a GO button. Preparation up front lets you focus on the fun stuff - getting the interactions with actors and the set just right.
